Comfort Food: a meal that warms your heart and sparks conversation, laughter, and memories.
This is my Happy Place
When I think of comfort food, I think of family, friends, and the enormous heart warming food fight scene in the movie Hook.
A few days ago I gathered together a group of family and friends to celebrate my Birthday with a Chocolate Making Class — the ultimate comfort food! We all met at Tifa Chocolate and Gelato in Agoura Hills, CA to learn all about the art of chocolate making, including a history lesson! This was such a wonderful way to celebrate and bring everyone together. I definitely have a new found appreciation for chocolate and the cacao bean. I don’t think a simple bag of M&M’s will cut it for me anymore.
After our history lesson we paired up into teams to first make our shells for the bonbons, complete with luster dust!
Next up was making our ganache fillings for the bonbons. Everyone ended up creating a different flavor combination, making the samples at the end (and during) that much more fun! We made Vanilla Peppermint, Peanut Butter Almond, Pomegranate Ginger, Bananas Foster, and Vanilla Lavender Cardamom. I have a creative group of friends and it was so fun to see everyone let loose and try different things!
We then filled our shells with the ganache and gracefully waited for them to set, not wanting any product to go to waste!
And here is the finished product — the fruits of our labor!
I highly recommend doing any sort of cooking class with your friends and family for a special event, or even just because! I actually offer culinary classes and can even do them in your home! My next post will have more details around that including a sample menu. I haven’t perfected the art of chocolate making yet, but maybe someday I can add that to my list of offered classes!
